Annual Kidney Research Day of the Swiss Society of Nephrology

Dear colleagues and friends

On June 16, 2025, the 2nd Swiss Kidney Research Day took place at the University of Bern – a day marked by inspiring scientific exchange, engaging discussions, and valuable networking.

More than 60 participants from across Switzerland, including both clinical and basic science nephrologists, gathered to present their current research and share insights on the latest developments in kidney medicine. We were especially pleased by the strong participation of young researchers, whose work was highlighted through the Abstract Challenge.

Congratulations to the winners of the Abstract Challenge:

  • Taiyo Yamamoto, Zurich: "Investigating mechanisms of cyst formation in a Xenopus model for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)"

  • Helene Balmer, Zurich: "Inflammatory regulation of FGF23 in acute kidney injury: insights into TNF and immune cell pathways"

  • Aurélie Huber, Geneva: "Bicentric validation for diffusion-weighted MRI as a non-invasive tool to assess renal fibrosis in native kidneys and allografts"

The event once again served as an ideal platform to strengthen the dialogue between basic science and clinical nephrology and to promote future collaborative efforts.

We thank all speakers, contributors, sponsors and attendees for making this day a success – and look forward to the next edition of the Swiss Kidney Research Day!

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. med. Michael Dickenmann Prof. Dr. med. Johannes Loffing
